My beautiful journey and the connection with spirituality in my life and work

In the year 2008, I was 37 years old, my personal life changed drastically. My body was screaming “love you“.

I was left on the street as homeless woman. I closed my business. My daughter was small. To get some peace,  I took my car, my daughter and my dog. I knew I wanted to be happy and fulfill something greater. But I didn’t know what. I started working when I was 15. I already knew many businesses, companies, people, many real stories… and I needed to add to myself, to elevate myself, to prepare myself for something I didn’t know what… That’s how I discovered that “Spirituality and Science” was my challenge for the next years!
I found myself in a situation of poverty.
I believed I could reverse my condition. It was then, in this new city in the south of Portugal, that I began to integrate spiritual practices into my daily life. I got a job at university and became a business consultant.
I used the following practices: I created my thought-intuitive notebook, where I tried to discover and emotionally reprogram Maria Joelle; I went for many meditative walks in nature; I always responded with love to those who mistreated me; I gave time and love to my daughter, despite my condition.
My principle of life-faith: I have faith and I respect all religions.
Through the practices and habits I’ve introduced into my life, I’ve been able to understand myself a little more and understand about Courage. Being happy requires Courage. Courage to change. Becoming poor, being poor, doesn’t mean that you remain poor forever. It means that, with Health and Courage, we can change our reality. And this is what happened to me. I gained emotional and financial freedom.
I started to:
  • feel more secure in life
  • to understand the relationship between the universe and life;
  • to realize that believing in love is fundamental;
So when I decided to do my master’s and doctorate, there was a lot of resistance: family, friends, work colleagues and university.
I took on different roles at the same time: family caregiver, student and researcher, business consultant and author. A long story of overcoming. I did everything at the same time.
Despite the harsh criticism and obstacles that were thrown at me, I never gave up. Life offered me the right friends who told me: “Joelle, don’t give up, this approach is needed by companies and people”. These friends were true life’s angels for me.
I'm doing an exercise here, as a spiritual practice: the exercise of gratitude.
I would like to thank these angel friends for their support:
José Ramos-Horta – President of East Timor and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate José Ramos-Horta has spent most of his adult life fighting for freedom from oppression in his homeland.
“If those in power, wherever we are, in whatever country, but also those at whatever level of society we are leaders of, started to work together – we would eliminate abject poverty and we could ensure that poverty is history in the next twenty years. That is the moral duty of any of us as human beings.”
Luisa Teixeira – Portuguese woman, has been a cornerstone figure in both my personal growth and professional development, serving as an exemplar of human values in practice. Without formal education in the field, she has demonstrated an innate expertise in understanding and nurturing the core values that foster both individual well-being and communal harmony. Her approach is characterized by an exceptional empathy and kindness, especially noticeable during periods of personal challenges. Luisa’s intuitive support and guidance are reflective of her deep commitment to uplifting those around her, making her an invaluable mentor and confidant in the exploration and implementation of human values within our interactions.
